About John Allen

John Allen is a SFF writer from England. He is not religious at all but does hold a degree in Theological Studies along with several diplomas in creative writing. His stories and articles have appeared in Dark Tales UK, Sci-Fi Lampoon, HuffPost, Vector, Dark Matter Magazine and more. His dark fantasy, By the Boiler’s Hand, was longlisted for the James White Award in 2018 and he has won 2 Honorable Mention Awards for Writers of the Future in 2017 and 2018. Away from sci-fi and fantasy, John’s short romance tragedy, Dear Jess, made the final 10 for the Val Wood Prize in 2019. John lives behind a pile of books in Essex and is a passionate advocate of promoting better mental health in society. He works part-time as a content and copywriter for Rethink Mental Illness and has previously worked for Samaritans, Mind, and Time to Change.
