Wizard’s Tower is delighted to announce the acquisition of reprint rights to the Sword Breaker trilogy by Joel Cornah. The three books – The Sea-Stone Sword, The Sky Slayer & The Storm-Forged Throne – were originally published by Grimbold Books and are currently out of print.
“Heroes are more than just stories, they’re people. And people are complicated, people are strange. Nobody is a hero through and through, there’s always something in them that’ll turn sour. You’ll learn it one day. There are no heroes, only villains who win.”
The trilogy follows the adventures of Rob Sardan, a teenage boy with impressive fighting skills who dreams of being a hero, and finds that it is much harder than the bards make it sound. Most of the time, killing people just makes you a murderer. It also makes you enemies. In Rob’s case this means the Pirate Lord, Mothar. Rob has to grow up fast if he wants to avoid an early death.
There is much for the fantasy fan to enjoy in the world of Diyngard, including vampiric pterosaurs, broken gods, and intelligent penguins. The trilogy also features many queer characters.
The Sea-Stone Sword is being re-edited by Pete Sutton for re-publication. Sutton previously worked with the second and third books in the trilogy. The re-issued books will feature all-new covers by Jay Johnstone.
Joel Cornah said: “It has been an absolute joy to return to Diyngard with Wizard’s Tower. Revisiting the story ten years on, I’ve found new angles and depths I hadn’t considered first time around. And yet the core remains and is perhaps still just as important to me. Stories are powerful, and with that power comes responsibility. It is a tale of how wrong things can go when we try and fit ourselves into a narrative that doesn’t really reflect who we are. The highs and lows, the triumphs and defeats, they all matter in the end. And love, of course. That matters.”
Publisher, Cheryl Morgan, said: “I’m pleased to be able to rescue some more books from the Grimbold stable. And, given the current state of the world, I am particularly pleased to be able to showcase books that have a substantial queer content.”
