BristolCon Welcomes Grant Sharkey

September 9th, 2013 · No Comments

We have something a little different in the way of evening entertainment at BristolCon this year. We’re delighted to welcome Grant Sharkey, wearer of many fetching hats, who will be providing the evening’s entertainment with a stand-up comedy routine, accompanied by his not-very-portable double bass. Grant is a comedian / musician / raconteur / agitator / former bookshop owner / writer / over-ambitious lunatic / good guy, but he describes himself like this :

“Theorising he could travel through music, Grant Sharkey stepped onto the Smart Car accelerator…and vanished. He found himself  stood on unfamiliar stages in front of smiling, happy audiences and driven by unknown forces to change music for the better. His only guide on this journey is a double bass from his own time, who appears in the form of low, cathartic rumbles that everyone can hear. And so Mr. Sharkey finds himself leaping from stage to stage, striving to put right what Cowell made wrong, hoping each time that his next leap will be the leap home.”

He also plans to conquer the universe, or a small bit of it, by releasing forty albums in the next twenty years, completely independently – he’ll be bringing some to BristolCon for you to buy. This is the kind of crazy ambitious scheme we like!
