Our first Guest of Honour is artist Andrew Skilleter

andrew skilleter

Long time illustrator, creator and publisher, Andrew Skilleter is best known for his professional involvement with Doctor Who and the BBC, primarily between 1979 and 1995. His work includes the iconic ‘The Five Doctors’ Radio Times cover, countless book and VHS covers, books, calendars, prints and other merchandise.

He also maintained a busy career from the 1970s as a versatile illustrator working mainly in publishing. For a number of years in the 1980s he ran his own publishing company, Who Dares. He aspired to be an illustrator from a very young age, producing comics and magazines inspired by the great British comic strip artists of the time.

A book of his art, Blacklight : The Doctor Who Art of Andrew Skilleter, a large format hardback written by the artist, was published by Virgin in 1995.

He has won absolutely no awards whatsoever and his only remaining hope is to get a lifetime achievement award but wonders if he will still be alive to receive it. He comforts himself by knowing his work has been selected and exhibited in London by the Association of Illustrators and others.

He lives in the Dorset countryside with his wife, artist and writer, Patricia Papps. In 2017 Andrew reformed his classic Who Dares Publishing imprint which now demands a great deal of his time. Amongst many tasks, he manages the development of the Doctor Omega Chronicles book series and supports the work of other genre illustrators.

You can see a range of his work on his website and follow him on Facebook at  Andrew’s Who Dares enterprise can be found at
