Thank You from the Chair

October 23rd, 2011 · 6 Comments

The goodies have been dished out, the bars have been drunk dry, and BristolCon is over for another year. Thank you to everybody who came along — you all helped make it the best BristolCon yet!

Special thanks must go to our guests of honour, Juliet McKenna, Justina Robson, Keith Blount and Jim Burns, and to the hard-working committee, Cheryl, Meg, Heather, Sam, Andy, Mark and Roz, who tweeted and fetched and carried and looked after our guests so well. It takes a long time and a lot of effort to put a successful convention together, and the committee have been very generous with their time, their transport, and the space in their houses. I’m happy and proud to be working with them.

Many thanks also to the horde of volunteer minions who helped things run smoothly on the day, Sam and Matt Bishop, Barbara Hall, Claire Carter, Clare Neilson and Lewis P Bear. Also thanks to all our panellists, dealers and artists, and to Talis and her band, who all made it such an interesting and entertaining event.

We are most grateful to the accommodating staff at the Ramada for letting us rampage through their conference facilities, particularly the ever-patient Rachel and Chris.

Our collection for Above and Beyond in memory of Colin Harvey raised £100! Thank you to everyone for your generosity, and we hope you enjoy the free copies of Damage Time.

A final note of thanks for our supporters, Forbidden Planet, SFX, Solaris, Random House, and Venue.

Next year BristolCon is pencilled in for 20th October, when we will be welcoming as GoH’s John Meaney, Gareth L Powell and Anne Sudworth. Ghost of Honour will be Colin Harvey.

I hope you will join us then!

Best wishes,

Jo Hall (Con Chair)

It was a fabulous day, Jo! Thank you for all your efforts.

I’m glad next year’s date is pencilled in, because I’m going to schedule my trip to India around BristolCon – hopefully!! Really don’t want to miss BristolCon.

Thanks for organising a great con. I now want to go back and attend the panels I missed/speak to the people I meant to chat to/finish the conversations I started.

We have audio recordings of most of the panels – those that didn’t involve a lot of visuals. If the quality is OK we’ll be podcasting them over the next few months.
