MEMBERSHIP NEWS

October 4th, 2021< by Christopher Rumble --> · No Comments

Despite all that’s going on, we are pleasantly surprised by the number of members who have signed up for this year’s convention featuring Guests of Honour Anna Smith Spark and Adrian Tchaikovsky. Whilst we would love to see as many lovely people as possible to celebrate our first post lockdown gathering, we are keen to minimise any infection risk.

To this end, we have reluctantly made the decision to cap our membership and remove the facility to register on the day. Once the cap is reached, we will close down on-line registrations.

Whilst we accept that this may be disappointing for some, safety is our uppermost concern. To support those who cannot attend, you can watch one of our panel rooms on YouTube, view our virtual art rooms, and join in the conversation on Discord. All for free – so look out for our announcements over the coming days.

Please do not attend if you are feeling unwell or have been in contact with a confirmed case of infection. We recommend that attendees complete a lateral flow test ahead of the weekend.

Supporting Member…but what is it?

August 30th, 2021< by Christopher Rumble --> · Comments Off on Supporting Member…but what is it?

Hello fellow followers of BristolCon.

You might be asking “What is this new “Supporting member option” and what does it all mean?

Well ConFans, the supporting member is a membership for those who wish to support our fun event, but who may not be able to join us this year. It also reserves your option to upgrade at the prevailing rate should your finances or plans change to allow you to attend.

It entitles you to watch our streamed content guilt-free… the streams are free anyway… both of cost and guilt… but, if you enjoy them or you’ve enjoyed previous cons and you wish to show us a little support… it’s £10 and helps to keep the convention going.

Now some of you might have noticed we said streams… more on that later, fellow follower.

Cheers Drive

BristolCon Membership Update

August 20th, 2021< by Christopher Rumble --> · Comments Off on BristolCon Membership Update

Bristolcon 2021 was an event we knew might be smaller, we knew people might not want to venture out… We were cautious in expecting to fund it.
Well folks! Thanks to everyone willing to support BristoCon 21 we are able to extend the discount period until September 30th.
Get your tickets before October 1st and enjoy the Rate usually only available many months before the convention!
We will also be streaming content if you want to support us but worry you won’t get anything for your money, but more on that when we release the programme.
Stay Safe, Stay Frosty, Stay fanta-sci-fi

Discounted Train Travel

July 29th, 2021< by Tom Page --> · Comments Off on Discounted Train Travel

The Bristol (& Bath) Tourism have done a deal with GWR so that anyone going to a “Conference” in Bristol can get reduced rail fares!

You can get the GWR offer on PEAK (i.e. a weekday morning), to Bristol, if eligible.

The small print: fixed, locked-in, train to Bristol but complete flexibility as to which GWR train you catch on the way home.

This only applies on GWR services this includes London Paddington.

Unfortunately, this does not apply to any other train company to get to Bristol (eg Cross Country or South Western Railway).

To get the discounted travel, go to: Discounted Train Travel

Memberships NOW on sale!

BRISTOLCON IS BACK! LIVE AND ONLINE!

Memberships NOW on sale

A long time ago, in a very different world, we at BristolCon celebrated our tenth anniversary in style. Wind forward to today and so much has changed. Last October, we held two virtual events with Chris Lintott’s Zooniverse talk and Peter F Hamilton’s interview with Gareth L Powell. These were very well received as we learned the ropes for holding virtual events.

This year, we are planning for a combined in-person-and-online event on 30th October at our favourite venue, the Doubletree Hilton Hotel on Redcliffe Way. Our plans are to supplement the live event with some digital presentations, an online art gallery, and a social area. Our Guests of Honour are confirmed as Anna Smith Spark and Adrian Tchaikovsky.

Those of you who signed up for last year’s event will have received an email confirming that we have transferred your membership to this year’s event. Please contact us at (membership at Bristolcon dot org) if you have not received your confirmation.

We would love to see you all again after such a prolonged absence and we have today opened up the membership database to allow you to sign up. We have agreed to maintain membership prices at the previous level with the cutoff for the price rise postponed to 30th September.

Memberships NOW on sale

If you would like to be involved in the organisation or running of the Con on the day, you would be most welcome. Please get in touch at (chair at bristolcon dot org) as we are particularly looking for support with registration, on-line tech, and volunteer coordination.

We continue to monitor government advice closely and are working with the hotel to ensure the safety and well-being of our members. Updates will be posted here as they occur.
