TITLE: Nine Visions of Bristol’s Far-out Future

SUB HEADER: Swimming Kangaroo Books Releases New Science Fiction Anthology

BRISTOL, Monday, August 03, 2009 – Swimming Kangaroo Books is proud to announce a new anthology called Future Bristol – an anthology of stories imagining what the future holds for the South West’s largest city.

The anthology includes contributions from nine leading British authors, including Liz Williams, Gareth L Powell, Stephanie Burgis, Jim Mortimore, Joanne Hall, Nick Walters, Christina Lake, John Hawkes-Reed and Colin Harvey.

Editor Colin Harvey says: “Bristol has a long history of innovation and exploration, and these stories present us with nine visions of what life will be like for the Bristolians of the future.”

These visions range in tone from far-out literary speculation to nail-biting action and adventure. Astute readers will also find famous Bristol landmarks cropping up in the tales, including the Suspension Bridge, The Clifton Rocks Railway, Brandon Hill, and the Cumberland Basin. There’s even a guest appearance from the great engineer, Isambard Kingdom Brunel.

Colin Harvey continues: “This book has been a very personal project for all the authors involved. Many of them have lived and worked in or around Bristol for many years, and their affection for the city and its history really shines through in their tales. As far as we know, this is the first anthology of its kind to celebrate Bristol in this fashion, and we hope to really put the city and its inhabitants on the international science fiction map.”

Future Bristol is published by Swimming Kangaroo Books in paperback and electronic formats, and is available from Amazon, Fictionwise and local retailers.
