Green Stories Initiative

March 14th, 2019 · No Comments

Green Stories is an initiative to get people writing about green issues such as climate change, green energy, sustainable food etc. It has recently completed a competition for writing short stories and the anthology, Resurrection Trust, will be published on March 28th with a foreword by Caroline Lucas MP and review by Jonathan Porritt.

The profits from this publication will be used to run bigger competitions in the future, the next one for writers opening in April will look for solution-focused stories with a positive tone, which according to research are more likely to inspire greener behaviours and a proactive mindset to address sustainability issues than stories with a catastrophic focus. This seems to be because negatively framed stories can either make people avoid the subject and switch off, or leave them feeling helpless to make a difference.

The Green Stories website, which also has information about various issues, is here.

For those interested in the Resurrection Trust see here. There will be a book launch at October Books, 189 Portswood Rd, Southampton SO17 2NF. Thursday 28th March 2019 7.30pm -8.30pm. There will be wine and nibbles and some short readings and general mingling.
