Jaine Fenn studied linguistics and astronomy at the-university-previously-known-as-Hatfield-Poly, where one of her tutors was the astronomer who helped design Brian Aldiss’s Helliconia. A number of jobs have funded her writing habit over the years, some more embarrassing than others. None of them have used anything from her degree.
Her first professional story sale was ‘The Path to the Sun’, an Aztec alt. history short which appeared in ‘On Spec’ in 2001. A number of other short story sales have followed. The Hidden Empire series of novels, published by Gollancz, began in 2008 with the critically acclaimed Principles of Angels. Four more books in the series have been published to date, as well as a short story collection, Downside Girls.
Although she is primarily an SF writer, she is not afraid to mess with the laws of physics if the story demands it.
